Be Inspired to Lighten and Brighten up Your Home…

Greetings Sarah Kay friends! Here at SK Headquarters in the southern hemisphere winter has officially arrived which means the days are getting shorter. We’re determined to shake off the winter blues and share with you some tips inspired to lighten and brighten up your home to maximise the sunshine and lift our spirits!

Let There Be Light
Find ways to compensate for the loss of sunlight. Open your window shades or curtains and clean your windows to make the most of the natural outdoor light available. Table lamps and floor lamps can be used to create task light for reading, writing and crafting where needed.

De-clutter
Clutter creates a sense of chaos in the home and can be very distracting so get rid of unnecessary items. Display things of sentimental value to create warmth, such as family photographs, heirlooms and art.

Brighten Things Up
Use bright white or muted tone furniture and décor as light will bounce off these and create a more airy feel. Accent pillows and co-ordinating accessories can be used to add a pop of colour.
Create a sense of relaxation. Surround the space with throw pillows, blankets and inspirational books. Use textured rugs to soften and warm hardwood floors and create a relaxing atmosphere. The idea is to create a space that looks and feels softer, calmer and more tranquil. Layering soft textures can create this effect as can fireplaces.

Bring Nature Indoors
Put your indoor plants and flower arrangements on display; not only will they create a sense of calm they are both visually and aromatically soothing to the soul. Place them on window sills, coffee or side tables, dining tables and even on the mantle if you are lucky enough to have one .

Add a Candle Glow
There’s something really romancing about the light of a candle flickering in a room and creating an ambient glow. Introduce a soft scent to further stimulate the senses!

We hope you’ve enjoyed our tips for letting the sunshine in.

Enjoy.
xoxo
